Why a Pool Makes a Hen Weekend

A private pool changes the shape of a hen weekend. It gives the group a focal point that works from the moment you arrive to the last morning — somewhere to swim, sunbathe, float about with a drink, or just sit beside while the rest of the house wakes up. Every property here has a swimming pool (outdoor, indoor, or both) alongside the bedrooms, communal spaces and amenities a hen party house needs.

These are whole-house stays for groups, booked direct with owners. Each listing shows the pool type, dimensions where available, whether it's heated, and everything else the property offers. Many also have hot tubs, games rooms and large outdoor areas. Contact the owner directly to check dates and ask about anything specific to your group.

A pool house gives the group more to do without adding to the organiser's workload. Morning swimmers get their laps in before anyone else surfaces. The afternoon crowd spreads across sun loungers with books and music. The evening shift drifts in after dinner for a last swim under the lights. None of that requires booking, scheduling, or getting everyone to agree — it just happens because the pool's there.

For hen weekends that include at-house activities — cocktail masterclasses, mobile spa treatments, life drawing — the pool fills the gaps between them. It's also where the photos come from that don't look staged: someone mid-dive, the group on inflatables, drinks on the poolside table. Those candid shots tend to outlast the posed ones by years.

Indoor vs Outdoor Pools for a Hen Weekend

Outdoor pools work best from May to September — warm enough to swim without the heating bill making the booking price eye-watering, and long enough evenings to use the pool after dinner. For winter hen weekends, or groups who want to swim regardless of the weather, an indoor pool is the safer bet. Some of the larger properties have both, which gives the group options whatever the forecast says.

Check whether the pool is heated and, if so, to what temperature. An unheated outdoor pool in March is a dare, not a swim. Heated pools typically sit at 28–30°C and cost the owner more to run, which is reflected in the booking price — but split across a group, the per-person difference is usually small.

Best Regions for Hen Party Pool Houses

The Cotswolds has the highest concentration of large houses with pools — stone-built manor houses with heated outdoor pools and rolling views. Cornwall offers coastal settings where an outdoor pool complements beach days. For groups wanting a city night out alongside the pool house, properties near Bath and Brighton offer both.

Devon and Dorset are strong for summer hen weekends — gentler weather than further north, country pubs within walking distance, and coastal walks to balance out the poolside lounging. The Lake District tends to favour indoor pools for obvious reasons, but the scenery and the space you get for the price more than compensate.

Making the Most of a Pool House Hen Weekend

Bring pool inflatables, waterproof speakers and a few poolside games — they cost almost nothing and transform an afternoon by the pool from "nice" to "the bit everyone talks about". Ask the owner what's already provided; many houses come with sun loungers, outdoor furniture and sometimes pool toys.

If the group includes non-swimmers or people who'd rather not get in, make sure the property has enough non-pool space — gardens, patios, a good lounge — so everyone's comfortable. The best pool houses work as much for the people sitting beside the pool as for those in it.

Hen Party Pool Houses FAQs

Everything you need to know before booking

Are swimming pools at hen party houses heated?

It varies by property. Indoor pools are almost always heated to 28–30°C. Outdoor pools may be heated seasonally or year-round — the listing or the owner can confirm. Ask before booking if swimming temperature matters to the group.

Can we use pool inflatables at a hen party house?

Most owners allow inflatables and pool toys. Avoid anything with sharp edges that could damage the pool liner, and check with the owner if you're planning anything large. Some properties provide their own pool toys and loungers.

Is there a lifeguard at hen party pool houses?

No — these are private residential pools without lifeguard cover. The group is responsible for its own safety around the pool. Most properties post pool rules and provide safety equipment.

Can we have a pool party at the house?

Each property has its own rules on outdoor music, noise levels and late-night pool use. Many welcome pool parties during the day and early evening. Check the house rules or ask the owner before booking if a pool party is part of the plan.

What's the difference between houses with pools and houses with hot tubs?

A pool gives the group space to swim and sunbathe; a hot tub is a smaller, heated tub for soaking and socialising. Some properties have both. If relaxation is the priority, a hot tub may be enough. If the group wants to swim, lounge poolside, and use the water as a daytime activity, a pool is the better fit.

Are pool houses more expensive than other hen party houses?

Properties with pools tend to be at the higher end, especially those with heated or indoor pools. Split across a hen party group, the per-person premium is often modest — and the pool replaces the cost of a spa day or activity that would otherwise be booked separately.
