When Is Easter 2028? UK Dates and School Holidays

Group Escape Houses TeamGroup Travel Experts2026-10-206 min readLast reviewed 1 November 2026

Easter Sunday 2028 is 16 April. Good Friday is 14 April and Easter Monday is 17 April, so England, Wales and Northern Ireland get a four-day weekend from Friday 14 to Monday 17 April for guests whose work arrangements include those days off. In Scotland, Good Friday is a bank holiday but Easter Monday is not. Below: the dates by nation, what we know so far about the 2028 school Easter holidays, Easter 2029 for anyone planning further ahead, and what to sort out first when booking a large house for the group.

Easter 2028 at a glance

Easter MondayMonday 17 April 2028Yes, in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (not Scotland)

The clocks went forward three weeks earlier, on Sunday 26 March 2028, so Easter 2028 already has light evenings and, typically, milder weather than an early Easter. St Patrick’s Day is a bank holiday in Northern Ireland on Friday 17 March 2028, a month before Good Friday.

Is Easter late in 2028?

Later than most years. Easter Sunday can fall anywhere from 22 March to 25 April, and 16 April puts it in the later third of that range. In 2027 it was 28 March, nearly three weeks earlier, and in 2029 it is 1 April, two weeks earlier again. Mid-April offers more daylight than late March, but it does not guarantee warm or dry weather. Ask whether outdoor facilities will be open and keep an indoor plan. If you are choosing between an Easter weekend and another spring bank holiday, our bank holiday planning guide compares them.

Easter 2028 in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Wales has the same bank holidays as England. Scotland has Good Friday but not Easter Monday, so a Friday-to-Monday trip needs each guest to confirm Monday leave as well as their usual weekend and Good Friday arrangements. A group that mixes Scottish and English guests should agree early whether the stay is Friday to Sunday or Friday to Monday. Northern Ireland has both Good Friday and Easter Monday, plus St Patrick’s Day earlier in the month. Our 2028 bank holiday calendar has every date for all nations.

Easter school holidays 2028

School holiday dates vary by council and school. The table below gives confirmed examples for Hampshire and Nottinghamshire. Kent, Surrey and Essex have separate council calendars linked below. Check your school’s dates and INSET days before booking.

Easter school holidays 2028, from each council’s website (checked October 2026, more to follow)
CouncilEaster holiday 2028
HampshireMonday 3 to Monday 17 April
NottinghamshireMonday 3 to Friday 14 April (break up Friday 31 March, return Tuesday 18 April)

The Hampshire, Kent, Surrey and Essex calendars start the summer term on 18 April 2028. Do not assume that 18 to 21 April is a school holiday. Check the individual council and school. See the 2028 school holiday guide and the linked Hampshire, Kent, Surrey and Essex calendars.

Easter 2029, and 2027 for comparison

2027Friday 26 MarchSunday 28 MarchMonday 29 March
2028Friday 14 AprilSunday 16 AprilMonday 17 April
2029Friday 30 MarchSunday 1 AprilMonday 2 April

Easter 2029 is two weeks earlier than Easter 2028, back into late March and early April. Under the UK’s last-Sunday-in-March rule, clocks go forward on 25 March 2029, a week before Easter Sunday.

Plan Easter 2028 around the school return

We’d settle the departure day first. In the Hampshire and Nottinghamshire examples above, pupils return on Tuesday 18 April, immediately after Easter Monday. Extending the house booking into that week does not extend the school holiday. Families using other calendars should check their own return date before agreeing to stay longer.

  • For a three-night stay: ask about arrival on Friday 14 April and departure on Monday 17 April. Confirm the owner’s changeover rules, then allow enough journey time for school and work the next morning.
  • For adults staying longer: a Monday-to-Friday worker who already has Good Friday and Easter Monday off could request 18 to 21 April as leave. That makes ten days away from work, 14 to 23 April. It is not a suitable assumption for shift workers or children returning to school.
  • For relatives arriving at different times: confirm who will receive the keys and whether late arrivals are permitted. Share the address, parking instructions and first meal plan so the main organiser is not meeting every car.

Choose the house for April rather than a promised forecast

Check the bedroom arrangement against the guests who have committed. Our bedroom planning guide helps distinguish proper beds from optional sleeping spaces. For grandparents or anyone with limited mobility, ask about steps between the bedroom, bathroom and dining room; the multi-generational guide sets out useful questions.

Use the garden when conditions allow, but make sure everyone can sit and eat inside. A games room may suit a wet afternoon, and the rainy-day guide offers alternatives. Check any hot tub rules with the owner, including child supervision and permitted hours.

Arrange Easter Sunday food after the house is confirmed

For an egg hunt, ask about enclosed outdoor space, ponds and livestock before choosing hiding places. For lunch, decide whether the group will cook or request a private chef. Give a supplier the exact address, dietary needs and kitchen details; a nearby listing does not guarantee a chef can attend.

Browse Easter houses, then request a written quote for your preferred nights. Confirm that the owner has opened their 2028 calendar and whether the rate is final. The booking checklist covers the terms to read before collecting contributions and paying a deposit.

The short version

Easter 2028: Good Friday 14 April, Easter Sunday 16 April, Easter Monday 17 April (not a bank holiday in Scotland). The clocks went forward on 26 March, so evenings are already light. Hampshire’s school Easter holiday is 3 to 17 April 2028. Easter 2029 is on 1 April. Browse Easter group houses or every group house, and add group experiences once the house is booked.

Frequently Asked Questions

What date is Easter 2028?

Easter Sunday 2028 is 16 April. Good Friday is 14 April and Easter Monday is 17 April. Good Friday is a bank holiday across the UK; Easter Monday is a bank holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland but not in Scotland.

Is Easter late in 2028?

Later than average. Easter Sunday can fall anywhere from 22 March to 25 April. In 2028 it is 16 April, nearly three weeks later than in 2027 (28 March) and two weeks later than in 2029 (1 April). A mid-April Easter usually means warmer days and longer evenings.

When are the Easter school holidays in 2028?

Several councils have published their 2027/28 calendars. Hampshire has Easter from Monday 3 to Monday 17 April 2028. Nottinghamshire breaks up on Friday 31 March 2028 and returns on Tuesday 18 April. Check your council's website or use GOV.UK's school term dates finder for England and Wales.

Do the clocks change over Easter 2028?

Not on the Easter weekend itself. British Summer Time starts at 1am on Sunday 26 March 2028, three weeks before Easter Sunday. The clocks will already have gone forward by the time Easter arrives, so evenings will be light.

When is Easter 2029?

Easter Sunday 2029 is 1 April. Good Friday is 30 March and Easter Monday is 2 April.

Is Easter Monday a bank holiday in Scotland?

No. Good Friday is on Scotland's bank holiday calendar, but Easter Monday is not. Check each guest's working pattern and approved leave; a bank holiday does not automatically mean time off.
