Cholwell Hall is a classic Victorian country house available for exclusive rental, sleeping 18 to 34 guests across 10 bedrooms, just 10 miles from Bath. The house has real period character — a beautiful Victorian tiled hallway, medieval oak beams and an original wooden staircase rising at a stately pace. It is a popular choice for family gatherings, reunions, golden weddings, special birthdays, business residentials, weekend house parties and upmarket stag or hen groups. The huge lounge is built for a party, with table tennis, pool, table football, karaoke and a central stone fireplace that can be lit through the winter months. Across the hallway, the grand dining room seats 30 or more at smart oak tables, which means the whole group can eat together rather than splitting up. The kitchen is generous and properly equipped for a group of this size: flagstone floor, stove, belfast sinks, gas double oven and hob, microwave, two fridges, a freezer, a dishwasher and all the crockery, cutlery and utensils a large party needs. Bookings are self-catering, though many groups bring in outside caterers and the bookings secretary can recommend local providers. All 10 bedrooms look out over the landscaped gardens to the pastures beyond, and are individually decorated with good quality, mainly pocket-sprung mattresses. Outside there is an acre of landscaped grounds, with space for hired-in activities such as a bungee run or gladiator games. Nearby there is quad-biking, paintballing and spa days, and Bath, Bristol and Wells are each around 10 miles away, with Cheddar Gorge, Longleat, Stonehenge, Wookey Hole and the Mendip Hills all within reach. Getting here from London takes about two hours: a 90-minute train to Bath Spa or Bristol Temple Meads, then a 30-minute taxi.
