Group-Friendly Pubs, Restaurants & Things To Do near Threshing Barn

Threshing Barn is on the Frasers estate at Coldharbour Farm, Barham’s Mill Road, near Egerton in Kent. We’d plan meals around the estate and Pluckley, then choose an outing towards Biddenden or Tenterden. This is a working country estate with several accommodation buildings and event spaces, so ask exactly which facilities your stay includes. We’d reserve one meal at the estate and one pub dinner, leaving space for the party to split during the day. Keen golfers, gardeners and families don’t need the same itinerary. Keep a shared dinner as the meeting point, with taxis arranged before anyone starts a vineyard tasting.

Eating & drinking

Where to arrange group meals in Threshing Barn, Egerton

The estate’s restaurant is the easiest first enquiry for a shared meal, but it requires advance planning. For pubs, send the whole party’s headcount, allergies and children’s ages together and ask about the proposed table arrangement.

  • Frasers of Egerton restaurant

On the estate, Frasers offers pre-booked dining, feasting menus and afternoon tea. We’d contact the team directly for a larger table and complete the menu pre-order they require. Dining isn’t automatically included with the barn, and an event elsewhere on the estate may affect availability. Ask about the most suitable space for your booking rather than assume a large private function room is included.

  • The Rose & Crown, Mundy Bois

About 10 minutes’ drive away near Pluckley, this is a country pub on Mundy Bois Road, rather than a restaurant in Pluckley village centre. We’d call to ask about a coordinated meal on one or neighbouring tables. The pub publishes children’s choices and takeaway options, which give you alternatives, but agree a large order and collection arrangements rather than assume the kitchen can absorb it without notice.

  • The Dering Arms, Pluckley

About 15 minutes’ drive away by Pluckley station, the Dering has a restaurant and an events room for arranged gatherings. We’d use it for an adult meal only if it suits everyone: the operator doesn’t admit children under twelve or dogs, and can’t provide a vegan menu or vegan substitutions. Reservations are by telephone, and tapas needs prior arrangement. Check current service days, including bank-holiday closure.

  • The Black Horse, Pluckley

About 15 minutes’ drive away on The Street, the Black Horse offers restaurant dining, a garden and event hire. We’d enquire directly about the full party’s seating and a menu pre-order. Its food service is more limited than its bar opening, so check the kitchen’s current days. This is a useful family alternative to the Dering, with dogs welcomed subject to the pub’s arrangements.

  • The Dog & Bear, Lenham

About 15 minutes’ drive away on The Square, the Dog & Bear has a restaurant and offers sharing-style Sunday dining for gatherings. We’d ask about a larger table or coordinated tables, with an indoor arrangement confirmed before choosing it. It’s a practical meeting point for guests travelling separately, but don’t assume a public restaurant booking includes exclusive use of another room.

Menus, opening hours and group policies change — always confirm directly with the venue.

Things to do

Choose an outing for your party and confirm any operator booking or access requirements.

  • Sissinghurst Castle Garden

About 25 minutes’ drive away, Sissinghurst offers gardens, exhibitions and organised group visits. We’d ask the National Trust which booking suits the party; the formal group programme has a minimum larger than this barn’s advertised guest capacity, so it may not apply to your stay. Narrow paths also limit guided touring. Confirm the season and a suitable route for anyone who needs step-free access.

  • Smallhythe Place

About 35 minutes’ drive near Tenterden, Ellen Terry’s former home offers a theatrical collection, garden and separately ticketed theatre events. We’d ask about an arranged group visit and the current season. The house, garden and tea-room are currently closed for winter, so confirm reopening before planning a spring visit. Upper-floor access is restricted, and theatre tickets don’t automatically mean access to every part of the property.

  • Biddenden Vineyards

About 20 minutes’ drive away on Gribble Bridge Lane, Biddenden offers different vineyard and winery tours. We’d book the format that actually fits the party: the private vineyard experience has a smaller limit than the barn’s maximum capacity. Ask about another tour or splitting the party. Vineyard walks are seasonal, while winter production tours have their own dates. Arrange transport before the tasting.

  • The Big Cat Sanctuary, Smarden

About 15 minutes’ drive away, the sanctuary offers pre-booked guided experiences rather than unrestricted everyday walk-in admission. The current group sanctuary tour is capped at ten guests, with children counted in that total. We’d reserve the correct experience together and confirm the date, access needs and age rules. A guided tour doesn’t automatically include a separate close encounter or hand-feeding experience.

  • Chart Hills Golf Club, Biddenden

About 20 minutes’ drive away, Chart Hills accepts visitor tee-time bookings and offers organised golf days. We’d book a golfing subgroup, checking playing requirements, equipment and tee-time spacing. Its advertised corporate packages have a minimum greater than the barn’s maximum guest capacity, so don’t assume you qualify. Ask for a visitor arrangement that fits your actual players, with tuition discussed separately if needed.

  • Hole Park Gardens, Rolvenden

About 30 minutes’ drive away, Hole Park can arrange group visits, guided tours and catering, including visits outside ordinary public dates by agreement. We’d contact the estate before choosing transport and say whether you want a guided visit or time to wander. Public opening is seasonal, and organised group visits have different membership arrangements. Confirm accessibility and refreshments as part of the booking.

Check current tickets, group availability and access directly with the operator.

Good to know

  • Use Coldharbour Farm on Barham’s Mill Road and the host’s final directions. We’d send each driver the named barn and agreed entrance rather than the village name alone.
  • Confirm the current bed layout and any sofa-bed use before assigning rooms. Ask which estate facilities are available to you and whether an event affects shared areas during your stay.
  • We’d order initial groceries or arrange a meal with the owner before arrival. Keep dietary requirements in one list for the estate restaurant and any pub reservation.
  • Book return taxis or a minibus when you book dinner. Country lanes aren’t a good basis for assuming everyone can walk back after dark, and app availability isn’t guaranteed.
  • Check the estate’s rules for dogs, music, visitors and independent suppliers before planning a celebration. Facilities advertised for an event aren’t automatically included with accommodation.
  • Download directions and carry waterproofs and shoes with grip. Check current times, seasonal closures and any tour capacity limits again before travelling; a smaller booking can work better as two separate outings.
