Group-Friendly Pubs, Restaurants & Things To Do near Kosel Treehouses

Kosel Treehouses is at Old Mill Farm in Gweek, at the head of the Helford River in south Cornwall. We’d plan around Gweek, Helston and the Helford area, rather than north-coast resorts. The accommodation comprises separate treehouses, including Skapya, Kalmynsi and Daskor, so check exactly which units your group has booked and where everyone can gather. We’d reserve a village meal, choose one garden or wildlife outing and keep time free at the treehouses. Guests have separate places to retreat to, but that doesn’t establish a shared indoor dining room. Confirm the current bed layout, children’s arrangements and dog permissions for each unit before assigning people to rooms.

Eating & drinking

Where to arrange group meals in Kosel Treehouses, Gweek

Ask for one coordinated reservation and tell the venue how many guests are coming. For bigger gatherings, agree adjacent tables or a private space; a garden photograph doesn’t guarantee wet-weather capacity.

  • The Black Swan, Gweek

About 10 minutes’ walk into the village, the Black Swan is the obvious first enquiry for a shared pub meal. It has a restaurant, beer garden and car parking. We’d phone to ask for the right indoor table arrangement, with allergies and children’s needs supplied together. Check the walking route with the host and carry a torch for the return after dark.

  • Sula Brunch House, Gweek

A short village journey at Gweek Classic Boatyard, Sula offers sit-in and takeaway food with a back garden. We’d book the group through Sula’s own booking link or social pages. The boatyard explicitly can’t take café reservations on its behalf. Check current winter times and ask about the table arrangement; this remains a working boatyard, so keep to visitor areas.

  • Flora at New Yard, Trelowarren

About 15 minutes’ drive away at the Trelowarren estate near Mawgan, Flora combines a café, bakery and restaurant, with private events available. We’d ask whether an ordinary reservation or an arranged meal fits the party. Dinner and Sunday lunch have different service arrangements, so check the current offering. Use the named estate directions rather than expect a restaurant on Mawgan’s main street.

  • The Ship Inn, Mawgan-in-Meneage

About 10 minutes’ drive away, the Ship offers private dining in its snug for a smaller party. We’d telephone, since it doesn’t take table bookings by email or social media. It has no children’s menu and welcomes children over seven to eat from the adult menu, so it won’t suit every family. Confirm the guest total and any deposit or cancellation terms directly.

  • The Prince of Wales, Newtown St Martin

About 15 minutes’ drive away, this community-owned pub offers meals, takeaway and Christmas-party bookings. We’d call about a group table and check the kitchen’s current days. Dogs are welcomed, but discuss the allocated space. The kitchen uses gluten products and doesn’t describe its dishes as gluten-free, so anyone with coeliac disease needs a direct conversation rather than relying on an adapted menu.

  • The Shipwrights Arms, Helford

About 25 minutes’ drive away, followed by the walk down from the village car park, this waterfront pub accepts table bookings by phone. Larger tables need pre-orders. We’d confirm an indoor arrangement and avoid driving down the narrow village lanes, where there’s no turning space. The outside pizza kitchen is seasonal; don’t assume it’s available for a winter meal.

Menus, opening hours and group policies change — always confirm directly with the venue.

Things to do

Things to do in Kosel Treehouses, Gweek for large groups

Choose an outing for your party and confirm any operator booking or access requirements.

  • Cornish Seal Sanctuary, Gweek

About 5 minutes’ drive to the entrance, the sanctuary is a close-to-base outing for the party. It’s largely outdoors, with steep and uneven paths between reception and the pools. We’d discuss access before travelling. Formal group packages have a minimum that may exceed your treehouse party and require advance booking, so ask which ticket arrangement fits. Dogs on leads can visit, with hospital restrictions.

  • Trebah Garden

About 25 minutes’ drive away near Mawnan Smith, Trebah is a valley garden with paths leading towards the Helford. We’d check the current garden map and choose a route to match everyone’s mobility. Manual wheelchairs aren’t recommended on the slopes. Its formal group arrangements have a minimum above some Kosel bookings, so check eligibility rather than assume a group discount or guided visit.

  • Glendurgan Garden

About 25 minutes’ drive away near Mawnan Smith, Glendurgan combines valley paths with a maze and routes towards Durgan. We’d contact the National Trust about a planned group visit and the current season. Bank-holiday group bookings aren’t accepted. Dogs can enter the garden on short fixed leads, but only assistance dogs can enter the maze, orchard and Schoolroom. Slopes and steps need an access check.

  • Museum of Cornish Life, Helston

About 15 minutes’ drive away, the museum displays everyday objects and stories of Cornish life. We’d ask before bringing a group and check whether a tour or smaller turns would work best. It’s a useful indoor alternative when a full garden visit doesn’t appeal, but confirm access to the galleries everyone wants to see. Workshops and evening events have their own booking arrangements.

  • Potager Garden, near Constantine

About 20 minutes’ drive away at High Cross, Potager has a garden, studios and a programme of craft workshops. We’d book a specific workshop for a creative subgroup, or arrange a garden visit with refreshments. Places can sell out, so don’t promise a drop-in activity. Ask about accessible parking at the top of the site; quiet dogs are welcome on leads.

  • Penrose estate walks

About 15 minutes’ drive to a Helston walking start, Penrose offers woodland and parkland routes towards Loe Pool. We’d choose the current route and car park together, since different entrances produce very different walks. The route from the Fairground car park provides an easier option than longer uneven trails. Keep away from unsafe water and coastal conditions, and check notices after storms.

Check current tickets, group availability and access directly with the operator.

Good to know

  • Use the host’s directions to Old Mill Farm, Gweek, TR12 6UD, and confirm each treehouse’s parking and luggage route. Elevated decks and hillside paths aren’t automatically step-free.
  • We’d confirm the exact units, bed configuration and shared dining arrangements before booking meals or assigning rooms. Each treehouse’s outdoor bath or hot tub is a separate facility, with its own rules.
  • Check children’s and dog arrangements for your named treehouses. We’d discuss supervision around decks, fires and outdoor bathing, rather than assume every unit has the same setup.
  • Arrange groceries and the first meal before arrival. The village has supplies, but a coordinated order for the whole stay is easier than several people buying the same basics independently.
  • Book return taxis for meals outside Gweek. Helford village parking is above the waterfront, and a ferry crossing isn’t a dependable substitute for a late-evening road journey.
  • Bring torches, waterproofs and shoes with grip. Check current times, tides and seasonal access before travelling, and keep an indoor alternative for guests who don’t want a steep garden or wet woodland walk.
