Group-Friendly Pubs, Restaurants & Things To Do near Mare & Furrow Barn

Mare & Furrow Barn is at The Plough Inn in Stalisfield, in the Kent Downs near Faversham. The accommodation is a collection of suites beside the inn, with a private wing of the pub for your group. We’d settle the food arrangements with the hosts first, then use Eastling, Doddington and Faversham for meals and outings. We’d give the weekend one main activity and plenty of time around the inn. The surrounding lanes make a busy attraction-hopping itinerary less appealing than it looks on a map. Agree the transport and return meal together so nobody has to rush back from a garden visit or brewery tour.

Eating & drinking

Where to arrange group meals in Mare & Furrow Barn, Stalisfield

There’s a strong reason to eat at the inn itself, but nearby villages offer alternatives. Tell each restaurant whether you want the whole party together or can accept adjacent tables, and have that confirmed before paying deposits.

  • The Plough Inn, Stalisfield

Beside the barn, the Plough provides the food for Mare & Furrow stays, including arranged breakfasts, group feasts and private dining in your wing of the inn. We’d plan the main dinner with the hosts rather than book a separate restaurant unnecessarily. Confirm which meals, menus and rooms are included in your quote; exclusive use of the accommodation doesn’t mean the entire public pub closes for you.

  • The Carpenters Arms, Eastling

About 10 minutes’ drive away, this village pub has a private dining area advertised for up to fourteen guests. We’d ask whether that suits your confirmed party size, or whether another layout is possible. A full Mare & Furrow booking can exceed that room’s capacity, so don’t assume everyone fits. Send dietary requirements with the initial enquiry and agree any pre-order.

  • The Chequers Inn, Doddington

About 10 minutes’ drive away on The Street, the Chequers offers set menus for larger parties and separate buffet choices. That makes it a useful direct enquiry for a coordinated group meal. We’d check the kitchen’s current service days and whether the party will sit together. The pub being open doesn’t mean every menu is available throughout the day.

  • The Bowl Inn, Charing

About 10 minutes’ drive away on the Downs above Charing, the Bowl has a restaurant, pub areas and a terrace. We’d phone about a whole-party meal or nearby tables, then agree the menu and seating. Follow the pub’s approach directions via Bowl Road rather than assume every lane suits your vehicle. The separate Shed food offering closes for winter, so confirm the main restaurant booking.

  • The Sun Inn, Faversham

About 25 minutes’ drive away in the town centre, the Sun has restaurant, bar and courtyard spaces and offers sharing-style Sunday dining. We’d ask the team to plan a larger booking and confirm an indoor arrangement. It’s a sensible meal after a Faversham outing, but a courtyard with lots of seats isn’t a substitute for reserved tables in wet weather.

  • Shepherd Neame Visitor Centre suppers

About 25 minutes’ drive away in Faversham, the brewery offers organised tour-and-supper experiences and private group tours with lunch by arrangement. We’d book the complete package directly if the party wants an activity and meal together. These are scheduled or pre-arranged experiences, rather than a restaurant to drop into, and the brewery tour has age and mobility restrictions.

Menus, opening hours and group policies change — always confirm directly with the venue.

Things to do

Things to do in Mare & Furrow Barn, Stalisfield for large groups

Choose an outing for your party and confirm any operator booking or access requirements.

  • Belmont House & Gardens, Throwley

About 10 minutes’ drive away, Belmont offers group house and garden visits by appointment, including specialist tours. The house and gardens are currently closed for the season, with reopening planned for Easter 2027; separately booked workshops have their own dates. We’d confirm a visit before arranging transport and follow the brown signs from the A251 because satnav can lead to the wrong estate entrance.

  • Doddington Place Gardens

About 10 minutes’ drive away, these gardens welcome pre-booked groups, with guided tours and refreshments or lunch arranged separately. We’d ask about the garden season and a route suited to the party rather than arrive expecting unrestricted access. If you’re hiring a coach, request the operator’s coach directions before travel; the narrow country approach needs more thought than a car journey.

  • Brogdale Collections

About 20 minutes’ drive towards Faversham, Brogdale offers guided walking and tractor-trailer visits to the National Fruit Collection. We’d ask which format suits your date and mobility needs, and whether the party needs to split between guides. Harvest, blossom and winter visits offer different experiences. Check the current programme; an old group pack doesn’t guarantee the same tour operates on every date.

  • Shepherd Neame Brewery tours

About 25 minutes’ drive away in Faversham, the brewery can arrange a private group tour and tasting. We’d reserve it directly and arrange transport for anyone drinking. The normal tour has many steps and isn’t suitable for wheelchair users; ask about the alternative virtual presentation. Under-eighteens are only admitted on pre-arranged educational tours, so this isn’t an ordinary family activity with children.

  • Hothfield Heathlands

About 20 minutes’ drive away, the reserve has several waymarked walks, including the shorter all-weather Triangle Trail. We’d choose a route before arriving so mixed abilities aren’t committed to muddy ground farther out. There are no toilets, and the car park has a height barrier that needs checking for minibuses. Follow current dog and grazing-animal notices, and don’t promise a visit to the Highland cattle: they’ve been removed.

  • King’s Wood, Challock

About 20 minutes’ drive away, King’s Wood offers public woodland paths for a flexible group walk. We’d use the main White Hill car park, download a route and agree a turnaround point. It’s a working forest with current coppicing notices, so follow diversions and keep clear of operations. Parking charges and ANPR began in October 2026; check the payment instructions rather than rely on older free-parking advice.

Check current tickets, group availability and access directly with the operator.

The big shop, getting around and the things worth sorting before everyone arrives.

Good to know

  • Use the hosts’ Stalisfield directions and agree arrival access for every car. We’d allow extra time on the final lanes, especially after dark or in poor weather.
  • Confirm the suite allocation and actual bed layout, including any sofa beds for children or extra adults. Ask which shared dining spaces and meal services your booking includes.
  • Only some suites accept dogs. We’d tell the hosts before assigning rooms, then check the separate dog rules at every pub and garden.
  • Book both directions of a taxi or minibus journey before your main evening out. Share the exact inn pickup point and any child-seat or mobility requirements.
  • Arrange groceries or breakfast supplies with the hosts rather than assume the suites have a full communal self-catering kitchen. Ask what equipment and storage are actually available.
  • Download directions and booking confirmations before heading into the lanes. Bring waterproofs and footwear with grip, and check current times and seasonal opening shortly before every outing.
