Group-Friendly Pubs, Restaurants & Things To Do near Chettle Lodge

Chettle Lodge is in Chettle, a village in north Dorset near Blandford Forum and Cranborne Chase. The Lodge and nearby Stable Loft are separate accommodation spaces. We’d confirm which buildings, bedrooms and temporary beds your booking includes before allocating rooms. A headline maximum isn’t a promise that every guest has a permanent bed in the main house. We’d choose one booked pub meal and one shared outing, leaving time for the house and gardens. Chettle is a lived-in village, so discuss visitors, music and celebration plans with the host. Confirm whether the wood-fired hot tub is included, what garden areas are shared and who is responsible for heating it. The house’s bar setup doesn’t mean drinks or staffed service are supplied.

Eating & drinking

Where to arrange group meals in Chettle Lodge, Chettle

Send the full guest total, dietary needs and children’s ages in one enquiry. We’d ask for a private room or agreed adjacent tables, with indoor seating confirmed before booking transport.

  • The Museum Inn, Farnham

About 10 minutes’ drive away in Farnham, the Museum Inn has a dining room, pub menu and private dining spaces. It’s a sensible first enquiry for a coordinated house-party meal. We’d contact the team about the indoor layout and whether a set menu or pre-order is appropriate. Mention dogs and access requirements when discussing the room, rather than assume every area can accommodate them.

  • The King John Inn, Tollard Royal

About 15 minutes’ drive away across the Wiltshire border, the King John takes celebration and event enquiries as well as restaurant bookings. We’d ask whether the party needs a private arrangement or adjacent tables and agree the menu together. The village location calls for booked return transport if people are drinking. Check current times and the confirmed reservation before leaving Chettle.

  • The Langton Arms, Tarrant Monkton

About 15 minutes’ drive away, the Langton Arms combines country-pub dining with experience of organised functions. We’d call about a large indoor arrangement and send one pre-order if requested. The current schedule includes closed days, including some bank holidays, so don’t assume holiday demand means extra service. Use the named village directions and allow time for the rural approach.

  • The Anvil Inn, Pimperne

About 15 minutes’ drive away, the Anvil serves pub dishes and roasts, with a separate seasonal Forge offering. We’d ask about a large table or adjacent tables inside the pub and confirm exactly where the party will eat. Summer outdoor service shouldn’t be the fallback for a winter booking. Discuss allergies, children and any mobility needs before agreeing the reservation.

  • The Grosvenor Arms, Shaftesbury

About 25 minutes’ drive away in Shaftesbury, the Grosvenor has a restaurant, bar and conservatory in a town-centre hotel. We’d enquire about a coordinated group meal and which room fits the party, with an indoor arrangement agreed directly. It’s useful when combining lunch with a town visit. Leave time to park and walk from the car park rather than expect every vehicle outside the entrance.

Menus, opening hours and group policies change — always confirm directly with the venue.

Things to do

Things to do in Chettle Lodge, Chettle for large groups

Choose an outing for your party and confirm any operator booking or access requirements.

  • Larmer Tree Gardens

About 15 minutes’ drive away near Tollard Royal, Larmer Tree welcomes group garden enquiries and can discuss refreshments for organised visits. The gardens are currently closed for winter, with reopening planned for spring 2027. We’d check the current calendar before arranging transport, including private-event closures. Ordinary visitors need to bring their own refreshments because there isn’t a general on-site café.

  • Blandford Fashion Museum

About 20 minutes’ drive away in Blandford Forum, the museum offers pre-booked group packages in a Georgian townhouse. We’d ask about tour numbers, stairs and any tea-room arrangement rather than arrive with the whole house unannounced. Its ordinary opening pattern includes closed days and a winter closure. Check current times and confirm any tailored visit in writing before collecting everyone’s payments.

  • Gold Hill Museum, Shaftesbury

About 25 minutes’ drive away, the volunteer-run museum sits at the top of Gold Hill. We’d contact it about bringing the house party and discuss access to the historic buildings. The ordinary 2026 season ends in early November, so check future dates before travelling. The hill’s cobbles and gradient need care; nobody has to walk down and back just to enjoy the town.

  • Hambledon Hill

About 25 minutes’ drive to the Child Okeford approach, followed by a steep walk, Hambledon offers an outdoor hillfort outing for guests who want a proper climb. We’d choose the route around the least confident walker or split the party. Parking is very limited, with no National Trust car park. Keep to paths, control dogs around grazing animals and avoid forming a roadside convoy.

  • Badbury Rings

About 25 minutes’ drive away, this National Trust hillfort gives the party space for a flexible walk among the earthworks. We’d set a meeting point and let keen walkers extend their route while others take a shorter circuit. Ground is uneven and steep in places, with no toilets. Follow the current parking instructions and dog restrictions, including protection for ground-nesting birds.

  • Gorcombe Extreme Sports

About 25 minutes’ drive away at Thornicombe, Gorcombe offers organised activities such as quad biking, paintball and clay shooting. We’d describe the party’s ages and interests and let the operator propose a suitable session. Different activities have different requirements and capacities, so the whole house may need to rotate in smaller groups. Confirm equipment, supervision, clothing and weather arrangements before booking.

Check current tickets, group availability and access directly with the operator.

Good to know

  • Agree the Lodge and Stable Loft combination before allocating bedrooms. Check how temporary beds affect floor space and whether anyone needs a room with fewer stairs; accessible ground-floor facilities don’t establish accessible upstairs bedrooms.
  • Ask the host for the current parking and unloading plan, then share it with every driver. Keep the village lanes, shop access and neighbouring entrances clear instead of treating roadside space as overflow parking.
  • Use Chettle Village Store for an advance enquiry about essentials, rather than assume it can supply a whole house at short notice. Arrange a larger grocery delivery for when someone is present to receive it.
  • Confirm kitchen equipment and the dining layout before planning a celebration meal. Ask permission for outside caterers, additional visitors or equipment, and check what the house’s bar arrangement actually includes.
  • Book rural taxis ahead and confirm the passenger total, collection point and return journey. If the party needs several vehicles, keep one list of who is travelling with each driver.
  • Carry waterproofs, walking shoes and a charged phone. Check current times, seasonal closures and weather notices again before travelling, particularly for gardens, hillforts and outdoor activity sessions.
