Group-Friendly Pubs, Restaurants & Things To Do near Three Gates Farm

Three Gates Farm is on the edge of Huntsham village in Mid Devon, roughly three miles from Bampton and six from Tiverton. We’d plan around the actual farm entrance, not Bampton town centre. The accommodation is a collection of cottages, so confirm which units and shared facilities your booking includes before allocating rooms. We’d choose one restaurant meal and one main outing, leaving time for the cottages and their grounds. Tiverton’s museums and canal work well for a shorter day, while a theme-park visit needs a separate plan. Agree the group’s interests, access requirements and transport before collecting money for activities.

Eating & drinking

Where to arrange group meals in Huntsham and Tiverton

For a whole-farm party, ask restaurants about one table or an agreed arrangement across tables. We’d reserve an indoor layout and send final numbers and allergies together, rather than expect a garden to solve the seating.

  • Hartnoll Hotel, Bolham

About fifteen minutes’ drive away, the Hartnoll offers private dining and celebration meals, from afternoon tea to dinner. We’d ask which room and seated layout suit the party, with any children and access needs included in the enquiry. Confirm the current menu directly rather than choose dishes from an old sample. A private-room booking needs its own confirmation; an ordinary restaurant reservation doesn’t secure exclusive use.

  • The Globe Inn, Sampford Peverell

About twenty minutes’ drive away, the Globe serves pub meals and has party and function arrangements beside the Grand Western Canal. We’d enquire about a group lunch or dinner, checking the exact room, table plan and any pre-order.

  • The Barge, Halberton

About twenty minutes’ drive away on High Street, the Barge has reopened its restaurant under its restored pub name. Older listings call it the Hickory Inn; use the current Barge details when enquiring. We’d call about a group table and ask for the latest menu, rather than expect the previous smokehouse offering. Confirm whether the party can sit together and which food services are available for your date.

  • Tiverton Hotel, Blundells Road

About fifteen minutes’ drive away, Tiverton Hotel serves meals in its restaurant and lounge and handles event enquiries. We’d ask about a booked group meal with a clear seating area, menu and any separate room requirement. Register vehicles with reception if using hotel parking, and confirm the dining access route before booking for guests with limited mobility.

  • The Fisherman’s Cot, Bickleigh

About twenty-five minutes’ drive away, this riverside pub serves meals and has a substantial restaurant. We’d enquire about seating for the full party and any pre-order, rather than rely on separate online tables being placed together. Check the route from parking to the proposed dining area, especially for anyone who needs step-free access. The garden is attractive, but reserve a workable indoor plan for wet weather.

  • Grist Mill Café Bar, Coldharbour Mill

At Uffculme, about twenty-five minutes’ drive away, Coldharbour’s café makes sense alongside a museum visit. The mill offers pre-booked group dining arrangements and a separate group space. We’d ask about the current café menu and room allocation before choosing it for a shared lunch. Winter project work can affect the wider visit, so confirm both food and museum arrangements rather than assume one booking covers everything.

Menus, opening hours and group policies change — always confirm directly with the venue.

Things to do

Things to do in Huntsham and Tiverton for large groups

Choose an outing for your party and confirm any operator booking or access requirements.

  • Knightshayes

About fifteen minutes’ drive away, Knightshayes has a Gothic Revival house, formal gardens and woodland. Larger groups must book ahead, and the team staggers house entry in smaller parties to prevent overcrowding. We’d agree arrival and access arrangements, then let guests explore the gardens at different speeds. Check current opening for each area; grounds access doesn’t guarantee the house is operating through the same period.

  • Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life

In Tiverton, about fifteen minutes’ drive away, the museum covers local trades, everyday life and the area’s history. It accepts pre-booked group visits and can arrange guided town walks separately. We’d contact it with the party size and any access requirements, choosing either a museum visit or an organised walk as the main booking. A changing event programme means a craft activity needs its own confirmation.

  • Tiverton Canal Company horse-drawn barge

At the canal basin on Canal Hill, about twenty minutes’ drive away, the company takes group reservations and private-hire enquiries for its horse-drawn barge. We’d confirm the date and capacity before organising transport. Trips are seasonal, so check the current programme rather than expect a winter departure. Ask about boarding and restrictions on dogs, pushchairs and bags before telling every guest that the trip will suit them.

  • Coldharbour Mill

At Uffculme, about twenty-five minutes’ drive away, the mill offers self-led and guided group visits covering textile production and industrial machinery. We’d choose deliberately between ordinary admission and a steam day, because the engines don’t run on every visit. The museum is undergoing winter changes, so ask what will be accessible on your date. Book any guided tour and group meal separately, with the final numbers confirmed.

  • Diggerland Devon

Near Cullompton, about thirty minutes’ drive away, Diggerland offers construction-machinery rides and a group-booking route. We’d check the opening calendar and every relevant height restriction before buying tickets for a mixed-age party. A group booking requires everyone to arrive together and has restrictive cancellation terms. Choose it for guests interested in the rides, rather than assume every adult wants a full theme-park day.

  • Tiverton Castle

About fifteen minutes’ drive away, Tiverton Castle offers seasonal public visits and private group tours by arrangement. We’d enquire about a date and access before choosing it for everyone. Its normal public season runs from Easter to the end of October, and wheelchair access is limited to the gardens and ground floor. There are no day-visitor refreshments, so plan a separate meal rather than promise an on-site café.

Check current tickets, group availability and access directly with the operator.

The big shop, getting around and the things worth sorting before everyone arrives.

Good to know

  • Follow Three Gates Farm’s own Huntsham directions for the final approach and share them with every driver. Rural lanes and a farm name aren’t enough to identify the correct turning after dark.
  • Confirm the cottage allocation, shared dining arrangements and pool-use conditions before inviting everyone. A combined sleeping total doesn’t establish that every bedroom or facility belongs exclusively to your booking.
  • Tiverton Parkway is a possible rail arrival point, but the station is outside Tiverton town. Reserve the transfer to the farm and agree how guests will travel to outings once they arrive.
  • Book rural taxis or a suitable minibus ahead for restaurant evenings, including the return trip. Give the driver the exact farm and venue addresses and one organiser’s contact number.
  • Check current times and seasonal programmes before travelling, particularly for boat trips, the castle and Diggerland. Keep an indoor option ready if heavy rain makes the outdoor plan uncomfortable.
  • Bring suitable footwear for gardens and towpaths, keep the party clear of canal edges and leave access for other visitors. Send allergies with final restaurant numbers and follow the farm’s rules for music and shared areas.
