Group-Friendly Pubs, Restaurants & Things To Do near Retallack Resort

Retallack Resort is at Winnards Perch, near St Columb Major in north Cornwall. The Queenwood listing covers a collection of separate lodges, so we’d confirm the named house or houses before planning rooms and meals. This is an inland resort base, rather than accommodation on Padstow harbour or within walking distance of Watergate Bay.We’d book one resort activity and one shared meal, then choose a separate outing towards Bodmin or the coast. Check what your lodge booking includes: a hot tub, games room, pool membership or dog permission can vary between properties. Don’t assume every facility shown in resort advertising comes with every independently booked lodge.

Eating & drinking

Where to arrange group meals in Retallack Resort, Winnards Perch

For a full lodge party, reserve directly and send one list of allergies and children’s needs. We’d agree a single table or coordinated tables, with a pre-order if requested, before confirming transport.

  • The Lookout Bar & Eatery, Retallack

On the resort, the Lookout is the simplest first enquiry for a group dinner. The operator asks larger parties to contact the restaurant directly rather than use ordinary online reservations. We’d give the full headcount and agree the menu and seating. Check the route from your named lodge and whether any event affects service; being a resort guest doesn’t reserve a table.

  • The Pickwick Inn, St Issey

About 15 minutes’ drive away at Burgois, the Pickwick has a restaurant and bar serving the same main menu. We’d phone about a group table or neighbouring tables and send dietary requirements beforehand. Dogs are welcomed in the bar area, so mention them before the team allocates your space. Confirm current service times and an indoor arrangement rather than rely on the garden.

  • The Journeyman, Mellingey

About 15 minutes’ drive away near St Issey, the Journeyman serves Indian and other Asian dishes in a former mill. We’d call to arrange a coordinated dinner; the operator takes reservations by telephone rather than email. There’s off-road parking, but agree transport before a celebration meal. Ask about the menu’s dietary options directly, including cross-contamination requirements where relevant.

  • The Cornish Arms, St Merryn

About 20 minutes’ drive away, this village pub has parking, a children’s menu and indoor and garden seating. We’d ask about a larger table or adjacent tables and confirm the current seasonal menu. Dogs on leads are welcomed. Its wood-fired pizzas are a summer offering and currently paused until next year, so don’t promise pizza for a winter visit.

  • St Kew Inn

About 25 minutes’ drive away in St Kew village, the inn has several internal dining areas and a garden. We’d call about a group arrangement, asking whether one room or coordinated tables would suit your party. Dogs are welcomed throughout. The pub itself recommends booking taxis ahead, which we’d do when confirming dinner rather than after everyone has finished eating.

  • Strong Adolfos, Hawksfield

About 10 minutes’ drive away on the A39 near Wadebridge, Strong Adolfos serves daytime food but doesn’t take bookings. We’d use it for a smaller subgroup willing to wait, rather than make it the guaranteed meeting point for the whole lodge party. Ask on arrival about available neighbouring tables. It’s a roadside café at Hawksfield, not a restaurant in Rock village.

Menus, opening hours and group policies change — always confirm directly with the venue.

Things to do

Things to do in Retallack Resort, Winnards Perch for large groups

Choose an outing for your party and confirm any operator booking or access requirements.

  • Retallack watersports

On the resort, book the FlowRider, wakeboarding or seasonal Aqua Park session that fits the actual participants. We’d check age, height, swimming and adult-supervision requirements before buying places. The FlowRider and Aqua Park have different rules, and a lodge booking doesn’t automatically include either. Ask about an exclusive session or suitable group slots, with a separate plan for younger children and non-swimmers.

  • Camel Creek Family Adventure Park

About 10 minutes’ drive away at Tredinnick, Camel Creek combines rides, animals and indoor play. We’d choose it mainly for a family party and check the attraction calendar before booking together. The full ride programme ends after the autumn half term, while Christmas has a separate limited offering. Height restrictions mean children won’t necessarily be able to take part in the same rides.

  • Screech Owl Sanctuary & Animal Park

About 20 minutes’ drive away near Indian Queens, the sanctuary welcomes arranged group visits and can discuss activities for different abilities. Its ordinary 2026 season ends on 1 November, so contact it for any later group arrangement. Pet dogs aren’t admitted; assistance dogs need advance arrangements. Special animal experiences have smaller limits and separate bookings, rather than being included automatically with entry.

  • Camel Valley vineyard

About 25 minutes’ drive away at Nanstallon, Camel Valley offers booked tours and tastings. We’d check the current weekday tour calendar; the vineyard is closed at weekends and winter tours run on fewer days. For wine by the glass, larger parties need several tables. Pet dogs aren’t admitted. Arrange a driver or return taxi before the tasting and confirm the booking together.

  • Bodmin Jail

About 25 minutes’ drive away, the jail offers timed entry and arranged group visits, with guided options booked separately. We’d check the content and age guidance before choosing it for a family party, as dark displays won’t appeal to everyone. Ask about mobility equipment dimensions and available seating. A full-party booking may still need separate timed sections or guides.

  • Lanhydrock

About 30 minutes’ drive away near Bodmin, Lanhydrock offers a house, garden and wider estate with different visiting arrangements. We’d pre-book a planned group visit and clarify which areas are open on your date. Winter estate activities don’t establish that the house is open. Coach parking has steps, so anyone needing a different drop-off or mobility scooter should arrange it beforehand.

Check current tickets, group availability and access directly with the operator.

The big shop, getting around and the things worth sorting before everyone arrives.

Good to know

  • Use the named lodge and Queenwood’s final arrival instructions for Retallack, Winnards Perch, TR9 6DE. Resort reception procedures may differ from an independent owner’s check-in arrangement.
  • We’d confirm which lodge or lodges are included, the bed configuration and where everyone can eat together. Separate lodge bookings don’t guarantee neighbouring buildings or a shared dining space.
  • Check pool membership, spa access, activity bookings and hot-tub facilities with the lodge manager. Treatments and watersports are separate arrangements, with their own age and supervision rules.
  • Order the first meal and groceries before arrival. Discuss deliveries and parking at the actual lodge rather than use the main resort address without a house name or number.
  • Book return taxis for off-site dinners and vineyard visits. We wouldn’t plan to walk the A39 or rural approach roads after dark, and several cars need an agreed meeting point.
  • Keep children supervised beside lakes and follow dog, noise and visitor rules for your lodge and resort. Check current times, weather and seasonal closures before each outing; a pool session is only an alternative if access and a slot are confirmed.
